The story
The sun comes up over the beach, and Murphy has a plan: a super sandcastle! He digs and piles the sand with his trusty shovel until the walls and towers rise. Then he flies along the water's edge picking up pretty pink shells and presses them into the walls for windows. A friendly seagull lands on the top tower and leaves a white feather behind for a flag, and Murphy steps back to admire his super sandcastle as the sun goes down over the sea.

For parents
Murphy builds a super sandcastle on the beach, and every friend and thing he meets starts with the letter S: sun, shovel, shell, seagull and sandcastle. Each word pops up next to a big letter S, and Murphy says “S is for…” after each one, so kids see the letter and hear its sound together.
How do I help my child hear the S sound?
S is a long, hissing sound, like a snake: “sssss.” Stretch it out at the start of words, “sssun,” “ssshell,” so your child can hear it before the rest of the word.
How do I help my child write a little s?
Start just below the middle line and curve over to the left, then curve back down to the right, like a snake wiggling, and finish on the bottom line. The Trace It game shows it with arrows.
