The story
Murphy's tummy is rumbling, so he fires up his rocket chair and goes looking for a snack. He finds a shiny red apple, but it rolls away! A line of ants carries it to the pond, a smiling alligator flips it high into the sky, and an astronaut catches it way up in space. When the apple finally lands on top of an ambulance, it gets a special delivery ride right back to Murphy.

For parents
This one is a story first: Murphy just wants his snack back. Along the way, kids hear five words that all start with the short a sound (apple, ant, alligator, astronaut and ambulance), see each one next to a big letter A, and hear “A is for…” after every discovery.
Why the short a sound first?
The short a in apple shows up in lots of early words kids already know, like cat, hat and nap. The long a in acorn and apron can come later.
What age is this for?
Ages 3–6, preschool through kindergarten. Younger kids enjoy the story and the song; older kids can do the tracing sheet on their own.
