The story
Murphy visits the quiet queen in her castle and finds out she loves sparkly things, so he decides to find her a present. The queen dips her quill in ink and draws him a map to the quarry over the hill. At the quarry there are rocks everywhere but nothing that sparkles, until a quail scratching in the gravel kicks up a glint and pecks at the spot. Murphy digs up a shining quartz crystal, flies quickly back to the castle and presents it to the queen, who sets it in her crown.

For parents
Murphy goes on a quest from the quiet queen's castle to the quarry and back, and every friend and thing he finds starts with the letter Q: queen, quill, quarry, quail and quartz. Each word pops up next to a big letter Q, and Murphy says “Q is for…” after each one, so kids see the letter and hear its sound together.
Why does Q almost always come with U?
In English, Q is nearly always followed by U, and together they make a “kw” sound, as in queen, quill and quartz. Kids can learn “qu” as a team that sticks together.
How do I help my child write a little q?
Start just below the middle line and go around to the left like a c, close the circle, then go straight down below the bottom line. The Trace It game shows it with arrows.
