Murphy and the Jumping Jam JarA Letter J Adventure for Kids
NOW STREAMING
The story
Murphy is having a picnic at the beach with toast and a jar of strawberry jam, until a blue jay swoops down and flies off with the shiny jar. The jay drops it, plop, into a tide pool, where a friendly jellyfish floats up and bounces it out. The jar lands in the back of the lifeguard's jeep, and a big bump pops it high into the air. Back at the picnic, a juggler on the boardwalk catches it, juggles it with his balls and tosses it right back to Murphy.

01Jam jar huntHide a clean, empty jar (or any toy) somewhere in the room. Your Couch Buddy finds it and says “J is for jar!” Then take turns hiding it.
02Jellyfish wiggleFloat around the room like a jellyfish, wiggling your arms like long tentacles. Every time you bounce, say “j, j, j.”
03Jolly jugglingToss a soft ball or rolled-up socks from one hand to the other, like the juggler on the boardwalk. Count how many catches you can make.
For parents
Murphy chases his jar of jam all along the beach, and every friend and thing he finds starts with the “j” sound in jam: jam, jay, jellyfish, jeep and juggler. Each word pops up next to a big letter J, and Murphy says “J is for…” after each one, so kids see the letter and hear its sound together.
How do I help my child say the J sound?
Push your lips forward a little and make a quick “j,” like the start of jump or jam. Kids can feel their tongue push up and let go.
How do I help my child write a little j?
Start in the middle with a line straight down, below the line, then curve to the left like a little hook. Lift the pencil and add a dot on top. The Trace It game shows that order with arrows.
