Murphy and the Itty-Bitty InvitationA Letter I Adventure for Kids
NOW STREAMING
The story
Murphy is throwing a garden party, and he has made an itty-bitty invitation. He sets it down on a big flat leaf, and along comes an inchworm that carries it off on its back. The inchworm inches down the garden path, climbs up the ivy on the garden wall and plops over into the yard next door, right onto the neighbor's pet iguana, sunning on a rock. When the iguana strolls away, a friendly ladybug picks up the invitation and flies it home to Murphy, and everyone comes to the party.

01Invitation timeFold a piece of paper into a tiny card and draw a party on it. Your Couch Buddy “sends” it to a stuffed animal and says “I is for invitation!”
02Inchworm inchCrawl across the floor like an inchworm: hands forward, then scoot your feet up to meet them. Say “ih, ih, ih” with every inch.
03Ladybug deliveryUse a toy as a ladybug and fly a little note across the room to someone, like the ladybug bringing back Murphy's invitation.
For parents
Murphy follows his party invitation through the garden and next door, and every friend and place he finds starts with the short “i” sound in inchworm: invitation, inchworm, ivy, iguana and insect. Each word pops up next to a big letter I, and Murphy says “I is for…” after each one, so kids see the letter and hear its sound together.
How do I help my child say the short I sound?
Smile a little and say a quick “ih,” like the start of itchy or inchworm. It's short and soft. The letter's name is “eye,” but in these words it makes the “ih” sound.
How do I help my child write a little i?
Start in the middle with a short line straight down, then lift the pencil and add a dot on top. The Trace It game shows that order with arrows.
